Churches In America

Published by Phil at 8:04 pm under Christian, Faith Aspects, Society

A couple people I work with have told me about recent problems in their church. The news that a pastor was being driven out and starting a new congregation did not surprise me much. It happens a little too much in America anymore. But why? Jesus told us that a house divided against itself would fall. Why do people in churches so often have to think they are better or deserve more? They remind me of the people God was speaking to in Isaiah 58 when He says “They ask me for just decisions and seem eager for God to come near them.” yet they are only giving lip service and don’t know what He really requires of them.

Our churches can be lifelines for people that don’t know God. They can be springboards for ministry or places of comfort and refuge for the needy and weary.  They can be places of worship instead of battlegrounds.  They could be so much more if people would just stop being so prideful and arrogant and believing that they are right and others are wrong.  So many churches are a divided house and yes, they will fall.

If you are in a divided church or divided congregation, stand tall and firm if that is what God is asking of you.  He may be using you to make a change.  God will prune.  We need not prune.  We need to obey His commands but only can we obey them if we know and understand them.  If Jesus is not the root, then the branches will not be filled with love.  If deceit and hate are the root, then the church will fall.  It’s sad.
